Letter: Decorations from Christmas past

Published 10:30 pm Monday, December 11, 2017

As I was admiring the beautiful color photo of Salisbury Fire Truck No. 2 (taken by Wayne Hinshaw) as it traveled through the Square in Saturday’s Salisbury Post, I could not help but remember the past glory of Christmas in downtown Salisbury.

No, I am not referring to the beautiful lights that adorned the power lines in the 1960s. I am referring to the way the square was decorated in the 1990s with lovely lighted garland, stretching from each corner building to the star in the middle, making that area look like an arch of lights and greenery.

I remember driving home from work in High Point in the ’90s, when I would get off I-85 in Spencer, just so I could drive through downtown Salisbury and admire the lights. Now, it’s just a star on a cable.

As I wish much success to all our leaders on the Salisbury City Council and all departments of the city, county and the fine workers, I do hope by next Christmas, the star has a more decorative surrounding.

May God bless us all!
