Bridge etiquette

Since duplicate bridge players are an intelligent and competitive grou, with many personal quirks, the ACBL has set rules of etiquette and procedure to allow games to run smoothly. Happily, our small games have grown to such a size that chaos prevails if rules are not in place. Please be at a table five minutes before game starts at 1 p.m. so I can set up the computer and Bridgemates and decide how many boards need to be in play. Time management is also important in keeping the game running smoothly. Each round is set for 8 minutes a board (e.g. 3 boards 24 min). When time runs out for the round, a board not actually being played, will be considered a late play and cards will be replaced in the board. It is never OK to argue with the director or refuse to comply. Moving between rounds is now a problem. It is never OK for players to move to the next table until the director calls the round. Rounds are over when the timer goes off. If you’re finished playing before that, KEEP VOICES down so players not finished can do so in peace. Next week I’ll address Bridgemate etiquette.
