KANNAPOLIS — The Kannapolis annual lighting of the Christmas tree in Village Park and the Festival of the Lights were switched on Saturday night by Santa himself. A fireworks show filled the sky over the park after the tree lighting ceremony. There are thousands of colored lights in the displays along with the Winterland Express train rides taking place nightly until Dec. 30.

A visit to the park is free to view the colorful displays. The train ride and a ride on the carousel are each $2 per rider. The rides are available 6-9 p.m. Sundays-Thursdays and 6-10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

This year, new additional light displays have been added along with the double-decker Carousel rides. The Singing Bears’ 30-minute show featured the moving bear characters with Christmas carols takes place hourly.  Take time to roast marshmallows, eat s’mores and talk with Santa.
