Letter: Social media an unreliable source

The internet and social media have ruined the newspaper business model. And worse, there is no editorial control on anything. Lies, alternative facts and rumors dominate the information people get.

The result is an increasingly divided society with no room for disagreement or compromise. When I speak with people who only deal in absolutes, I ask if they believe in the Constitution. They always say they do. I then remind them that the Constitution is a product of extreme compromise. So to say our current leaders can’t/shouldn’t compromise is to say they are smarter than the Founding Fathers.

As one football coach noted, “There is no good that ever came from social media.” I have no social media accounts and will never have one. Because his assessment is correct.
