Municipal early voting starts today

SALISBURY — Early voting for all Rowan County municipal elections begins today at the Board of Elections office in West End Plaza.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Early voting continues until Nov. 4, a Saturday when hours will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m..

Voters can cast ballots at the Rowan County Board of Elections office, 1935 Jake Alexander Boulevard W., Suite D10.

Anyone who wishes to vote on Election Day — Nov. 7 — must have been registered by Oct. 13. However, same-day registration will be available during early voting.

Only people who live within the municipal limits of a town or city can vote in that town’s election.

Positions on Rowan County ballots are as follows:

• Three seats on the China Grove Town Council.

The candidates are Arthur Heggins, Jason Higgins, incumbent Brandon Linn, Shane Safrit and incumbent Charles Seaford.

• Cleveland mayor and three Cleveland commissioner positions.

Danny Gabriel is running for re-election as mayor.

Candidates for Town Council are incumbents Gerald Osborne, Patrick Phfifer and Richard Taylor.

• East Spencer mayor and three spots on the East Spencer Board of Aldermen.

Running for mayor are James Cowan, incumbent Barbara Mallet and Teon Robinson.

Running for alderman are incumbent Tammy Corpening, incumbent Otis Gibson, Tony Hillian, Dwayne Holmes, incumbent Phronice Johnson and Jamilla Kennedy.

• All five positions on the Faith Board of Aldermen.

The candidates are Randall Barger and incumbents Brian Campbell, Matt Lyerly, C.J. Moody and Todd Peeler.

• Granite Quarry mayor and two seats on the Granite Quarry Board of Aldermen.

Bill Feather is running for re-election as mayor.

Candidates for alderman are incumbent Michael Brinkley, Kim Cress, John Linker, Wes Rhinier, Doug Shelton and incumbent Arin Wilhelm.

• Kannapolis mayor and three spots on the Kannapolis City Council.

Incumbent Darrell Hinnant will face challenger Dennis Johnson in the Kannapolis mayor’s race.

Running for City Council are Addul Ali, incumbent Dianne Berry, Howard Boyd Jr., Chris Gordon, Tony McBride, Van Rowell and incumbent Doug Wilson.

• Two positions on the Landis Board of Aldermen.

The candidates are incumbent Dorland Abernathy, Bobby Brown, incumbent Tony Corriher and Roger Safrit.

• Rockwell mayor and all five seats on the Rockwell Board of Aldermen

Beau Taylor is running for re-election as mayor.

Running for alderman are Timothy Crews and incumbents Chuck Bowman, Bobby Moore, Chris Stiller and Stephenie Walker.

• All five seats on the Salisbury City Council, including mayor.

Candidates cannot run for the position of mayor in Salisbury. The council elects one of its five members to the position. Typically, the council selects the person who receives the most votes in the council election.

Running for Salisbury City Council are incumbent Karen Alexander, Leda Belk, Ryan Evans, incumbent Kenny Hardin, Al Heggins, incumbent Brian Miller, Todd Paris, incumbent David Post, Rodney Queen, PJ Ricks, Tamara Sheffield, John Struzick and Latasha Wilks.

• Spencer mayor and all six positions on the Spencer Board of Aldermen.

Jim Gobbel is running for re-election as mayor.

Candidates for alderman are Sharon Hovis, Rashid Muhammad, and incumbents Mike Boone, Sylvia Chillcott, Kevin Jones, David Lamanno, David Smith and Howard White.
