SPENCER — Spencer native James Michael “Mike” Boone is running for a third term on the Spencer Board of Aldermen.
Boone said he’d like to finish what he started on the board.
“And I’d just like to be part of it,” he said.
Recently, the town has been working to update and change its codes.
“I don’t think they’ve been rewritten in 20 or 30 years,” Boone said.
Boone also said he’d like to help improve the town’s quality of life, improve town cleanliness and get Spencer back in a good, prosperous position in Rowan County.
The past four years have been productive, and the current board works well together, Boone said. In recent years the board has managed to finish the Spencer Woods Stanback Forest project and rewritten a good chunk of the town code.
In the future, Boone said he hopes to improve codes for landlords and work on getting local houses fixed up and renovated.
He also hopes to find a way to better develop the Park Plaza shopping center and to attract businesses.
“Quality of life, that’s what our promise is and that’s what we’re trying to improve,” Boone said.
Boone lives with his wife of 46 years, Debbie. He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Spencer Moose Lodge. He earned a degree from Davidson County Community College.
