This year’s Expo featured a total of 226 individual entries from 35 artists ranging in experience from beginner to professional. The total value set by the artists was $38,220. Fifteen pieces were sold. Slice of Heaven Pizza and Wings and The Trophy House of Salisbury provided purchase awards; Fine Frame Gallery and Wink’s Barbeque donated gift certificates. Jerry’s Shell supported the EXPO financially, as they do each year. Cheerwine Corporation provided beverages and Carolina Artist members provided food for the reception. Ashley Hook, Mooresville artist and instructor, was judge for the show.

The walls and panels of the Salisbury Civic Center sang with color from Tuesday through Saturday, Sept. 26-30.

Paintings, drawings and photography turned the normally colorless area into a museum. Those attending echoed praise for the art and the artists. Frequently overheard were comments regarding the variety of styles of the paintings and drawings. This year’s show featured interesting examples of abstract art as well as efforts toward realism.

The Carolina Artists Guild had it beginning in 1990, its goal to give local artists opportunities to both exhibit and sell their work. Workshops and other educational efforts are routinely offered. In addition to the annual Carolina Artists Expo, the Guild also sponsors the student art show in the spring. All schools in the county are given the opportunity to showcase the art of their students.

Those age 18 and over and are interested in the art process are invited to become members of the Carolina Artists. Meetings are held at the Rufty-Holmes Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue on third Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
