Prep tennis: Hornets win again

Salisbury’s girls tennis team cruised at home against North Davidson, 9-0, on Monday afternoon.

It was a pink-out match to promote breast cancer awareness.

Winning for the Hornets in singles were (1) Maria Capito (6-1 6-1), (2) Emma Nianouris (6-1 6-1), (3) Meredith Burton (6-3, 6-0), (4) Bethanie Stauffer (6-0 6-0), (5) Skye Mowery (6-1 6-1) and (6) Rachel Seifert (6-0 6-1).

Capito/Nianouris (8-1), Stauffer/Burton (8-1) and Seifert/Mowery (8-2) were winning doubles teams.

The victory was the 172nd in a row in Central Carolina Conference play for the Hornets, a streak the program started 15 years earlier on Oct. 2, 2002. Salisbury has won 308 of 310 conference matches dating back to 1989.

Salisbury (17-1, 16-0 CCC) plays a home non-conference match today against North Rowan at 4:30 p.m. and will be hosting South Rowan on Wednesday.

North Davidson (12-5) hosts Ledford on Wednesday.
