SALISBURY — A Salisbury man was charged with misdemeanor child abuse after he overdosed on opioids while his 9-year-old and 11-year-old children were in the home, police officials said.

Police charged Christopher Steven Carpenter, 30, of the 2400 block of Statesville Boulevard, with two counts of the misdemeanor offense on Saturday after they had to revive him with the overdose-reversal drug Narcan.

Carpenter became alert after being administered the drug. He was unconscious when police arrived, according to the report.

Carpenter was issued a $6,000 secured bond and was released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
