I am writing to voters in behalf of the family of Mayor (for Life) Wiley I. Lash, to urge you to vote for Patricia Ricks for Salisbury City Council. Although the family is no longer living in the city, it is the place that we all still call home.

Wiley left a legacy there, having served the city on countless boards and civic activities, and we would like to think that all of his energy and wisdom will be honored with a vote for Ms. Ricks. We are weighing in as a united family because we know that he trained her to carry on with the public service that was his passion.

Patricia Ricks is eminently qualified for the council seat. She is a Salisbury native, educated in local public schools, Livingstone College, and tutored personally by Wiley Lash. She has graduate degrees from several North Carolina institutions, and she has a record of serving with the quiet diplomacy and good practical sense that was his hallmark.

We know that the city is moving forward in many areas, and we applaud the efforts of so many of the current citizens. We all miss our hometown, but we have not forgotten the kindness and good work of the citizens of Salisbury. God bless you all.
