Food Lion sets Guinness World Records title for ‘most bagged lunches assembled in one hour’

SALISBURY — On Sept. 19, hundreds of Food Lion company leaders and associates gathered in Hot Springs, Va., and packed 10,320 bagged lunches, making Food Lion the Guinness World Records title holder for the “most bagged lunches assembled in one hour.”

This effort was part of Food Lion’s 60^th anniversary celebration and the company’s commitment to eliminate hunger through Food Lion Feeds, its hunger-relief initiative.

“At Food Lion, we’re honored to celebrate 60 years of feeding, caring and nourishing our communities,” said Meg Ham, president of Food Lion. “While I’m proud of what our team accomplished by setting this new Guinness World Records title, I’m even more excited about the opportunity we have to connect with our neighbors to help fight hunger while drawing attention to an issue facing nearly nine million people in the towns and cities we serve.”

The bagged lunches were donated to two local food banks, including the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Feeding America Southwest Virginia, and will be distributed to local schools and others in need within the community of Hot Springs, Va.

An official Guinness World Records adjudicator verified the count.

This Guinness World Records title attempt was part of Food Lion Feeds’ commitment to provide 500 million meals to individuals and families in need by the end of 2020. Through Food Lion Feeds, Food Lion is working to create a better tomorrow by uniting with customers and partners to help eliminate the difficult choices many families are forced to make when they are struggling with hunger.

Since the launch of Food Lion Feeds in 2014, the grocer has donated more than 320 million meals through associate volunteerism, in-store campaigns, in-store food rescue programs and equipment donations.

TenderHearted Home Care introduces new website for Davidson County family caregivers

SALISBURY – TenderHearted Home Care this week is introducing a Family Learning Center on its website, http://flc.ipced.com/tenderheartedhc, making it easier for family caregivers to find training and support resources to help them better care for the needs of their loved ones at home.

The Family Learning Center is free for family caregivers who provide home care for friends or loved ones who are homebound, suffer from a debilitating disease or who are simply aging and need companion care.

The site includes over 50 training topics created just for family caregivers that cover everything from basic caregiver training to transitioning of care to Alzheimer’s disease and memory care.

“Our Family Learning Center courses focus on multi-generational family caregiving and are designed to be immediately available to families who need help, but don’t always know where to turn for information or support,” said Renee Gray, owner of TenderHearted Home Care. “We wanted to make it easy for family caregivers to always have a caregiving resource to turn to whenever they need it. The Family Learning Center is that resource and it’s available online 24/7, simply by logging on to our website.”

Family caregivers need only visit http://flc.ipced.com/tenderheartedhc and register with their name and email address. Once registered, caregivers are provided a list of courses that will take them step-by-step through a specific topic with engaging and interactive video. The courses are narrated, but can also be read on-screen, allowing caregivers to learn through the method most comfortable to them.

In addition to courses, the Family Learning Center provides a selection of videos and tip sheets that focus on relevant and timely topics for the family caregiver.

“There aren’t a lot of resources available to family caregivers to make their challenges easier,” Gray said. “The new Family Learning Center is one way we can help. We hope it answers a lot of questions, gives them some much-needed training and support and allows caregivers to keep their loved ones more comfortable and remaining at home.”

TenderHearted Home Care, in business since 2011, provides in-home care services for seniors in Rowan, Davidson and surrounding counties as well as free information to help those caring for their loved ones.

Man Cave Craft Eats helps to fight childhood hunger at Food Lion luncheon

MINNEAPOLIS  — In the United States, one in five children goes hungry. Guided by a mission to give back, Man Cave Craft Eats made fighting childhood hunger a part of their business model.

“We wanted to contribute to the betterment of the world and to take care of the most vulnerable among us, children. So we started Bite Back, a one-for-one program, where every Man Cave Craft Eats product purchased translates into a meal for a child in need” said Man Cave Craft Eats CEO Nick Beste.

That is why Man Cave Craft Eats set a goal to provide one million meals to hungry children in 2017.

“The support we have received from our retailers and fans is incredible,” says Beste. “We’re so excited to be hosting this event (and) to be able to add to the total meals given away this year.”

The Food Lion Headquarters Luncheon, held on Sept. 21, fed approximately 2,000 corporate employees, in turn helping to support Man Cave’s mission to fight childhood hunger.

To date, Man Cave Craft Eats has given more than 620,000 meals to children in need and are on pace to hit their goal of one million.
