Letter: Reading challenge involves everyone

Published 9:07 pm Wednesday, September 20, 2017

Are you ready for some reading? It is time for football, festivals and fall fun. Join us as we encourage all Rowan-Salisbury Schools’ students to complete this fall’s reading challenge.

Statistics show the most successful way to improve reading achievement of students is to increase their access to print. By encouraging students to read, reading to them, and providing them with more reading opportunities, we naturally set them up for success.

We encourage you to talk with your child about their reading goals, what they’ve been reading, and what their interests are.

Our strategic plan goal this year is for all students to have the reading skills necessary to discover and achieve their own personal life goals.

At your leisure, please peruse our RSS Parent Resources Live Binder for more tips and ideas on increasing students’ reading skills: http://tinyurl.com/zqhe5oj

As we kick off a new year, we encourage all teachers and parents to help foster their students’ love for reading.

All RSS students have access to Achieve3000, which provides daily differentiated instruction that meets students at their Lexile level. This fall in RSS, we are thrilled to help our students reach their goals through encouragement and motivation both at school and at home.

All students who read 40 Achieve3000 articles by Dec.1 and score 75 percent or better on the comprehension task will earn an RSS Extraordinary Reader T-shirt and an iRead 40 bracelet. We are excited to hear about what our students are reading and help them reach their goals through this reading challenge.
