Letter: Something’s missing downtown on Innes Street

Time has come again for me to write another letter to the good people of the city of Salisbury.
The subject goes something like this: “I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree.” This was a poem titled “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer. I had to memorize that poem back in grade school. The author was blind, and I believe we don’t have to be too blind to see what has happened to the trees downtown along East and West Innes Street.
Maybe that poem should go something like this: I think I shall never see a cement and brick sidewalk as lovely as a tree. We sure get plenty of sunshine downtown now. How long will it take to grow more shade trees? Thanks, Tree City USA.
