Area Sports Briefs: 5 goals for East’s Kaligeromitros

Alex Kaligeromitros scored five goals on Thursday and lifted East Rowan’s soccer team to a 7-3 win against Davie County.

Kaligeromitros has scored nine goals in East’s two matches with Davie.

Landon Ketchie had a goal and two assists.  James Lomax had a goal and an assist. Will Peeler had two assists, and Owen Webb had one assist.

A.L. Brown topped West Rowan, 6-0, on Thursday.

Prep volleyball

South Rowan won again on Thursday in the Central Carolina Conference, beating Salisbury 25-13, 25-14 and 25-16.

Michaela Hallman had 31 assists for the third-place Raiders (9-5, 7-2 CCC). Janiya Downs had 16 kills. Kira Rymer had 14 kills. Jenna Strickland had 15 digs. Anna Blume had five aces.

South’s jayvees swept Salisbury 25-16 and 25-19.

Anna Rymer had 11 assists. Kendall Rockstad had five kills. Makenzie McGuire had 22 digs.

North Iredell swept Carson Wednesday in North Piedmont Conference action.

Mallory Weast had 16 kills and 15 digs for the Cougars. Kary Hales had 35 digs. Grace Thomas had 20 assists.

Carson swept East Rowan on  Thursday. Weast had 10 kills and 10 digs. Lindsay Elmore  had 13 kills.   Hales had 25 digs.

Leah Wyrick had seven kills for the Mustangs, and Baleigh Hill had 25 digs.

West Rowan stayed undefeated with a 25-13, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-15 win against South Iredell on Thursday.

Intimidators win

Facing elimination, the Kannapolis Intimidators rallied for three runs in the fifth inning and held on  to defeat the Greenville Drive, 5-4, in Game 3 of the South Atlantic League championship series on Thursday.

Greenville still leads the best-of-five series, two games to one, and hosts Kannapolis tonight.

Prep tennis

West Rowan lost to South Iredell, 7-2, in NPC tennis on Thursday.

Payton Holt won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for West, and Holt teamed with Abby Johnson for a doubles win.

West is at North Iredell on Tuesday.

Salisbury won 9-0 against West Davidson on Thursday to stay perfect in the Central Carolina Conference.

Winning for the Hornets in singles  were Maria Capito, Julia Honeycutt, Emma Nianouris, Skye Mowery, Meredith Burton and Bethanie Stauffer.

Capito/Nianouris, Stauffer/Burton and Rachel Seifert/ Mowery  won in doubles.

Salisbury will play Lexington at home on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Prep cross country

In Thursday’s Printcrafters Invitational at Statesville’s MacAnderson Park, Mooresville’s boys won the team competition.

East Rowan placed third, with Carson fourth, and West Rowan 10th.

East’s Sean Incardona was fifth in 17:03. Ross Alexander was 12th in 17:26.

Zac Barbee placed 16th in 17:44 to lead Carson.

Thomas Waldo finished 24th  in 18:42 to lead West Rowan.

Carson’s Ben Helms won the boys jayvee race in 19:14.

Lake Norman won the girls varsity race.

Carson was third, East Rowan was eighth, and West Rowan was 11th.

Carson’s Taylor Wigggins finished second in 20:20. Carson’s Taylor Conrad was fourth in 20:51.

Megyn Spicer (16th) led West Rowan runners, while Grace Faller (39th) led the Mustangs.

Prep golf

West Davidson’s Olivia Sharpe shot 35 to pace Central Carolina Conference girls golf at Sapona on Thursday.

Ellyse Scarborough led South Rowan, and Kyra Crump led Salisbury.

West Davidson (127) won by 20 shots over Ledford. South was seventh. Salisbury was eighth.

Jayvee football

Salisbury won against West Davidson, 22-14, on Thursday.

Sincere Houston, Cameron Cherry and Christian Morgan scored touchdowns for the Hornets.

Lawon Blackwell and Donovan Corpening led the SHS defense.

Davie won against Carson, 26-20, on Thursday.

Carson led 20-19 at halftime.

Nate Hampton threw for 160 yards and two TDs for the War Eagles. Joe Johnson scored two rushing TDs.

Michael Gonsalves had a 65-yard scoring run on Carson’s first snap.

Cameron “CP” Pyle had scoring runs of 42 yards and 1 yard for the Cougars.

Jake Nichols and Arturo Avalos had fumble recoveries. Jadon Vernon and  Jacob Bias blocked Davie PAT tries.

Andrew Beaver kicked two PATs for Carson.

QB Drew Huffman scored a TD for the Raiders, and South’s defense scored on a fumble recovery in the end zone.

Mid. school tennis

Erwin  defeated Mooresville Middle 7-2, in a tennis match at Mooresville on Thursday.

Riley Isley, Rebecca Reilly, Joanna Thompson and Cindy Peterson won in singles for Erwin.

Erwin swept doubles, with Isley/Audrey Ward, Lauren Whisnant/Reilly and Thompson/Peterson winning matches.

Knox was defeated by West Rowan on Thursday, 6-3. Singles winners for Knox were Sophie Chmiel, Sage Huffman and Grace Eppehimer.

Knox will host Erwin on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

Local golf

GARS members played in their own foursomes at Warrior.

Low ‘A’ Flight player was David Scearce with a net of 62.41. Low B’  Flight player was Tom Talbert with a net of 63.93.

Low ‘C’ Flight player was Ralph Luther with a net of 66.14. Low ‘D’ Flight player was Larry Perrell with a net of 67.30.

Winsten Mahaffey, 80, had low gross score with a 72

Lou Manning, 83, shot an 83, while Jim Brown had an eagle 2 on the 322-yard No. 2 hole.

  Mahaffey won closest to the pin on No. 12.  Gordon Correll won closest to the pin on No. 3.
