Letter: Expressing gratitude for William Peoples renaming

Published 12:00 am Tuesday, September 12, 2017

As a citizen of Salisbury and Rowan County, I want to thank the city of Salisbury for agreeing to name a portion of Brenner Avenue in honor of my friend William Peoples the “William C. Peoples, Jr. Walkway.”

As many expressed pleasure and told stories on Friday of Peoples’ volunteer work in this city, he would indeed be proud to know that his volunteer work did not go unnoticed. Big thanks goes out to the Dixonville–Lincoln Memorial Task Force and Ms. Emily Perry, the committee and city staff who worked very hard to make this event possible and to those who took time out of their busy schedules to share in the dedication of the unveiling of the sign and bench at the Lincoln Cemetery. I am sure that he would have wanted to do more.

As Sheriff Auten would say, enjoy your chocolate chip cookies. And now let us roll up our sleeves and continue his good work.
