Honoring 60 Pantries for 60 Years: Food Lion Feeds expands ‘The Great Pantry Makeover’ in campaign’s third year

SALISBURY — As part of its 60th anniversary celebration and Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month, Food Lion is expanding its third annual “The Great Pantry Makeover” by remodeling and stocking the shelves of 60 local food pantries across its 10-state operating area. During this event, which kicks off today with makeovers through Dec. 12, the company will donate more than 2.5 million meals and 2,000 volunteer hours as part of its largest associate volunteer initiative.

“At Food Lion, we are committed to nourishing the towns and cities we serve,” said Meg Ham, president of Food Lion. “‘The Great Pantry Makeover’ provides our associates a great opportunity to personally connect with their neighbors to help fight hunger through local food pantry capacity expansion, refurbishment and healthy food donations.”

Now in its third year, “The Great Pantry Makeover” will double its efforts, expanding from 30 pantry makeovers to 60 leading up to Dec. 12, which is Food Lion’s 60th anniversary.

Pantry improvements include remodels ranging from installing shelves, painting and cleaning pantries, installing equipment to expand capacity for fresh fruits, vegetables and other products, and, in addition to performing the work, Food Lion associates will stock the pantry shelves with food.

“The Great Pantry Makeover” is proud to partner with Feeding America during Hunger Action Month to help raise awareness of the nationwide campaign mobilizing communities to take action to help end hunger.
