SALISBURY — Catawba College is ranked 86th among 254 colleges and universities in the Southeast for delivering the “Best Bang for the Buck,” according to the 2017 Washington Monthly College Guide released last week.

The listing of “Best Bang for the Buck” schools in five geographic regions, the publication says, is to “help nonwealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.”

Since 2005, the Washington Monthly has released its annual College Guide and rankings of schools “based on what they are doing for the country.”

The rankings are broken down according to five geographic regions: Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, South and West.

In addition to inclusion on the “Best Bang for the Buck” rankings, Catawba is ranked 116th among 227 national universities that offer bachelor’s degrees. The guide rates schools “based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and PhDs) and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).”
