Ron Jeffers newest Life Master
Congratulations to Ron for this achievement. He also became a Bronze Life Master at the same time because he had greater than 500 master points. He is a very good player and a big help to all of us. Thanks and congratulations.
This week we address bidding over a RHO preempt bid. If you’re holding 13-15 points and your RHO pre-empts, what do you do? Billy Miller gives this guideline:
Defenders holding many cards in the pre-empted suit try hard NOT to bid, while defenders with few to none in the pre-empted suit strains to bid. Therefore, if you hold few cards in the pre-empted suit, a 5 card major and 14 points you can choose to double or bid your suit.
It is usually correct to make the least restrictive bid, therefore doubling is the better choice. This allows a possible contract in one of the other 3 suits or for partner to pass your double if he holds length in the pre-empted suit allowing you to reap a penalty score.
