GOLD HILL — Turn back the clock this Saturday, Aug. 19, for Historic Gold Hill’s Hot Summer Nights Cruise-In and Shop Crawl.
Showcase your classic car, antique car, street rod or cycle from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. It’s definitely o.k. to wear your poodle skirts, saddle shoes, tight jeans and tees as you stroll through the village to see all the cool cars.
The deejay’s music will transport you back to the ’50s and ’60s while you enjoy the quaint historic village. All shops will be open.

NC Museum of Dolls, Toys & Miniatures
SPENCER — The NC Museum of Dolls, Toys & Miniatures, formerly The Spencer Doll & Toy Museum, is still dedicated to Preservation, Education and Fun.
Events for August at the museum include the Glow in the Dark Golf Tournament fundraiser on Friday, a Miniature Doll House Doll Workshop on Saturday and coming on Aug. 26, storytelling with local author and humorist Jan McCanless.
The museum hosts the largest Shirley Temple doll collection on public display as well as the largest Schoenhut Humpty-Dumpty circus and Schoenhut dolls exhibit.

CONCORD — Creative artists, inventors, and members of the greater community are invited to develop design concepts to activate the sidewalks of Downtown Concord.
These inventions will be placed along Union Street for a one-day viewing by the public, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 21. The top designs will be awarded cash prizes (Judge’s Choice $1,000 and People’s Choice $500), with the potential for one design to be built out for permanent installation in Downtown Concord.

Alzheimer’s Association Western Carolina Chapter needs 75 volunteers
KANNAPOLIS — Help at the annual Rowan Cabarrus Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the NC Research Campus, 150 Research Campus Drive.
Volunteer any time between 6 a.m.-2 p.m. for event set-up, registration, photo zone, walk route support, refreshment station, t-shirt station, start and finish line cheerleaders, and breakdown. Volunteers will be given a T-shirt. Sign up at www.alz.org/northcarolina/ or call 980-498-7725.
Catawba College Theatre Arts welcomes Strangemen & Co.
Theatre arts alumna Amanda Lederer (’10), along with the New York-based Strangemen & Company, comes to Catawba College for a forum and a two-day master class. Lederer serves as an actor, executive producer, and outreach director for Strangemen & Company.
The forum is free and open to the public and is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 25, in Hedrick Little Theatre on campus.
A two-day master class, exclusively for Catawba Theatre Arts students, is scheduled on Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 26-27. By the “fusion of movement, sound, shapes and text,” the Strangemen & Company master class will offer students “a hands on experience” utilizing various techniques grounded in “movement-based theatrical techniques, clown, puppetry and the various, crucial elements of thematic study to dig into a story’s potential.”
The idea behind the master class is to broaden “an artist’s arsenal of creation.”
Founded in 2010 by Jason Ralph, James Ortiz, and Frank Winters, Strangemen & Company are located in New York City. Their focus is on “creating company-devised work that will honor what is simple and true in each individual story.”
