Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary will have a fundraiser, “An Afternoon with Joe Mitchell’s Train,” from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 24.
“Joe Mitchell’s Train” refers to the miniature train that once operated at The Hitchin’ Post Drive-In in Salisbury, where Faithful Friends is now located off Grace Church Road, near U.S. 29.
The late Mitchell was the owner of the drive-in. William and Judy Deal, volunteers for Faithful Friends, are now the owners of the 1950 miniature train.
The Deals have fully restored “The Hitchin’ Post Southerner,” and it runs on 1,100 feet of track around their home in Lexington, where the Faithful Friends fundraiser will be held.
Tickets are $25 each and are available to ages 18 and older. Ticket sales are limited to 100.
The Deals and their miniature train will be featured in the September issue of Salisbury the Magazine. That issue will reach subscribers this week.
Tickets are available for purchase at the following locations:
• Critters Cards and Gifts, 125 S. Main St.
• South Main Book Co., 110 S. Main St..
• Little Choo Choo Shop, 500 S. Salisbury Ave., Spencer.
• Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary, 220 Grace Church Road.
Also available at the fundraiser will be light refreshments and raffle tickets for T-shirt quilts made and donated by Judy Deal. The T-shirt quilts depict the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Carolina Panthers and Faithful Friends.
More information is available by calling Faithful Friends at 704-633-1722.
The rain date will be 2-5 p.m. Oct. 1.
