Prep swimming: Salisbury’s Knorr shines in YMCA Nationals

Salisbury High rising senior Ethan Knorr, three-time Rowan County Swimmer of the Year, competed in YMCA Nationals.

He placed in the top 16 in all of his events.

Knorr was third in the 1500 meter freestyle in 16:12.72, a Winter Junior National qualifying time. He was fifth in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.81, a Summer Junior National qualifying time. He was second in the 400 IM in 4:33.37 for another Summer Junior National qualifying time.

He was 16th in the 400 freestyle in 4:09.25 and ninth in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.50.

Knorr trains with coach Brad Herndon at the Greensboro Community YMCA six days a week.

Knorr’s sister, Emily, a rising freshman at Salisbury and a state champion in three events in the 13-14 age group, also swam in the YMCA Nationals. She was 10th in the 1500 free and 800 free.
