Area Sports Briefs: Intimidators fall in 15; Rowan Junior Open times, pairings set

The Kannapolis Intimidators used two position players on the mound in a, 5-4, 15-inning loss at Greensboro on Saturday.

The game lasted 4 hours, 39 minutes.

Micker Adolfo’s three-run homer in the eighth erased a 4-1 deficit and led to extra innings.

Local golf

Nick Lyerly lost in the quarterfinals of the N.C. Amateur Match Play Championship on Saturday.

Lyerly, who will be a freshman at  UNC Greensboro, lost 3 and 2 to Eric Bae, a rising sophomore at Wake Forest.

Seeded t hird, Bae made today’s final and will take on UNCG’s Bryce Hendrix, the top seed, at Durham’s Treyburn Country Club.

Legion baseball

Reliever Lucas Briggs pitched seven innings as Tallahassee Post 13 beat Wilmington, 10-7, on Saturday, eliminating the N.C. state runner-up from the Southeast Regional in Asheboro.

The Florida champs are in today’s final against Randolph County at 1:30 p.m. If Florida wins, a second championship game will be necessary.

Randolph  County stayed unbeaten Saturday with a 1-0 win that eliminated Florence, S.C.

  Chase Webb pitched seven shutout innings for Randolph County. Jaxon Snider pitched the last two innings and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth.

Florence lined into a DP with the bases full in the sixth.

Catawba’s Cameron Morrison singled home the only run  after a double by Dawson Painter, the MVP of the state tournament.
