Innes Street Drug will close after 91 years in business

SALISBURY — On the glass front doors of both Innes Street Drug locations, a yellow sign is posted.
“It is with sincere regret,” the signs begins, “that, after 91 years in business, Innes Street Drug will be closing both locations.”
The stores, which have been located at several places around Salisbury but which are now located at 112 S. Main St. and 1706 W. Innes St., have been owned by the Fuller family since 1947. The first Innes Street Drug store opened in 1926.
The pharmacies at both locations will close Friday, with prescription services stopping at the end of that business day.
According to the sign on the door, existing prescriptions will be transferred to Moose Pharmacy — at 1408 W. Innes St. — after Friday. Customers who want to have their prescriptions forwarded elsewhere should contact either Innes Street Drug location and specify where their prescriptions should be sent.
The front portion of both stores, where over-the-counter medications and products are stocked, will remain open until all remaining merchandise is sold. The owners have not set an official closing date. Employees estimate it will be several weeks.
The soda and ice cream shop in the South Main Street location is expected to stay open until all remaining merchandise is sold.
“We truly love and appreciate the many generations of customers we have served in our 91 years of operation,” the sign continues. “God bless you all and thank you for your years of friendship and patronage.”
