Area Sports Briefs: Salisbury’s Parrish will coach soccer all-stars

Salisbury’s Matt Parrish was named on Friday as the head coach of  the West boys team for  next summer’s East-West All-Star soccer game in Greensboro.

Parrish is 129-14-8 as head coach of the Salisbury boys the last six seasons.

He’s coached the Hornets to 2A state titles in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

His teams have won six straight CCC championships. He was CCC Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2016.

Robinson’s Todd Spinelli was named to coach the West girls soccer team.

The West’s head football coach will be East Forsyth’s Todd Willert.

Freedom’s Casey Rogers will coach the West boys basketball team.

Mount Tabor’s Rick Anderson will coach the West girls basketball team.

Intimidators roll

LEXINGTON, Ky.  — Blake Hickman struck out a career-high nine batters, as the Kannapolis Intimidators defeated the Lexington Legends, 7-0, on Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Kannapolis (53-49, 14-20 second half) blanked Lexington for the second straight game.

White Sox 2017 first-round pick Jake Burger went 3-for-5 and has six hits the last two nights.

Zach Remillard  went 3-for-5. Aaron Schnurbusch drove in three runs with a double in the second inning.

Kannappolis plays at Lexington again tonight.

College track

Cameron Isenhour (West Rowan) was named as assistant track and field coach at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky.

Isenhour has been head coach at Gray Stone.

Tennis camp

The 1st annual Unmatchables Tennis Camp will be held at Salisbury High from 8-10 a.m, on Aug. 7-11.

The camp is free and is for ages 8-15.

Participants must register before Aug. 1. Camp is limited to 15 players. Required attire is a solid white polo shirt and dark shorts.

Snacks, water and equipment are provided.

Parks and Rec

Salisbury Parks and Recreation is accepting teams for its USSSA Men’s Fall Open Softball League.

League fee is $475 per team.

Wrestling camp is  Aug. 7-10 from 9 until noon daily.  Cost is $30.

Hole-in-one

Bryson Sprinkle, an East Rowan High golfer, made a hole-in-one on Friday at McCanless.

Sprinkle aced the 180-yard No. 12 hole with a 6-iron. It was his first ace.

  He was playing with Randy Davis, Jim Wyatt, Rick Adams and Chris Curtis.

Junior Mac golf

McCanless Golf Club hosted its fourth “Jr. Mac” 9-hole tournament on Thursday.

  1st place- Brodie Perry (35)

  2nd Place- JC Sprinkle (41)

  3rd Place-  Rian Perry (46)

Longest drive was won by Brodie Perry.

The final Junior Mac of the summer is Thursday, Aug. 10, at 1 p.m.

Timber sports

In the Stihl Timbersports US Pro championship qualifier, Rockwell’s Matt Slingerland finished third in Pool A.  He’ll compete to become the top lumberjack in the country today   at German Fest in Milwaukee.
