Area Sports Briefs: Legion softball playoffs tonight

In the Legion softball state playoffs tonight, Rowan hosts Randolph  at Carson High at 6 p.m. and Cabarrus hosts Stanly, with the winners advancing to the state tournament in Morganton. The format is one seven-inning game.

In the West bracket, Burke County is home against Hendersonville, and Rutherford County is at Shelby.

Local golf

McCanless Couples:

The team of Bev and Ty Cobb and Susan and JJ Wydner edged out the team of Walt Kincaid, Mary and Gene Seaford by winning on a  scorecard playoff.

Mary Seaford had closest to the pin, while Kincaid had the longest putt.

Little League softball

The Rowan Little League softball minors team (8-10) won three of its first four games in the Tournament of State Champions, including victories against Georgia and Florida.
