I read where Al Wood will be playing in the Shag Club’s golf outing (“UNC great Al Wood will play in Salisbury Shag Golf Tournament,” July 15). That is wonderful.

I do have an issue. The story reports he is a three-time All-ACC selection and a first-team All-American. The research I found was that he was a two-time All-ACC and second-team All-American. Here is the most glaring error: The staff report says Mr. Wood was a member of the 1980 gold medal Olympic team. He couldn’t win an Olympic gold medal in 1980, because the United States boycotted the Olympics that year.

Editor, your staff needs to double-check their info before printing a story. I do hope Mr. Wood enjoys his time here with the the shag club.
