SALISBURY — Parents and other family members play an integral role in assisting a child’s learning, the Rowan-Salisbury School Board believes. Continued involvement by family in the educational process is important in improving educational achievement.

It’s why the system encourages parents and family with opportunities to become involved in the programs offered by the Title I schools. The board will discuss this and other topics at its meeting today.

The Title I program is a federally supported program that offers assistance to educationally and economically disadvantaged children to help them ensure they receive an equitable, high-quality, well-rounded education and meet the school systems challenging academic standards.

Title I staff and all school system personnel work to conduct outreach to parents and family that involves them in activities throughout the school year. Parents will be given a family engagement plan.

In other business the board will also:

• Have a second reading and adopt the policy that relates to parental inspection and objection of instructional materials.

• Have a second reading and adopt the policy on selection of instructional materials.

• Have a second reading and adopt the policy on Title I comparability of services.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the Wallace Educational Board room, 500 N. Main St.
