RALEIGH – An internet network outage in central North Carolina has forced approximately 35 driver license and license plate agency offices from the Charlotte metro area to the Triad to suspend services until repairs are completed.

The Rowan County DMV office on South Main Street is unable to serve customers at this time, but the license plate office on Kerr Street is not affected.

DMV officials were advised by Time Warner Business Services that crews are working to repair a cut to a major fiber optic cable that occurred on Thursday.  Time Warner/Spectrum has given no estimate when service to the affected DMV offices will be re-established.

DMV customers can check ahead to see if their office is affected. Office phone numbers and status can be checked on the DMV website.

The outage has also impacted several N.C. Department of Transportation local offices in the Division of Highways.

Many DMV services, such as license renewal, registration renewal and address changes, can be accessed online through the official DMV website at www.ncdot.gov/dmv. Click “Online Services” for more information.
