The North Rowan Advisory Team held its first meeting on Monday to collaborate on a vision for the North Rowan community school model.

Students, parents, teachers, administrators and residents met and brought to the discussion a strong sense of celebration of North Rowan’s family, culture and diversity. Participants shared excitement over many of last year’s activities in which students got to showcase their projects and talents.

One of North Rowan’s goals is to foster an excitement for learning and help students embrace education as a means to unlock doors that lead to successful futures.

Participants discussed strategies to build support for students and their families. North Rowan schools plan to build a strong community where everyone feels welcome at the schools.

Through the community plan, students have opportunities with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to explore options for future careers, and they will be able to take classes to earn college credit and to work toward certifications.

Schools will build strong connections with students to support their progress through their school years.

Teachers and staff members plan to explore creating a student advisory team of middle and high school students so that student voices can be heard.
