Today: Mt. Vernon Gospel Tailgate event

CLEVELAND — Mt. Vernon is sponsoring a Gospel Tailgate today from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Myers Park and Community Garden, 3760 Woodleaf Barber Road. The Rev. Timothy Bates, pastor of Cameron and Calvary Presbyterian Churches in Statesville, and Minister Towanda McNeil, from New Zion Baptist Church in Salisbury, will emcee the music which begins at noon. Father’s Day at Mt. Zion

Edminson serves as special assistant-general administration at Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina and is editor of the institution’s 130-year-old publication Charity and Children. Brady to speak at First Calvary Baptist

First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St., will observe Father’s Day and Men’s Day during the 11 a.m. service on Sunday. Brother Raymondo Brady will be the guest speaker. Special music will be rendered by the Men’s Choir and Pastor Leamon E. Brown.

Brady, a Salisbury native, is chairman of the Trustee Board, vice chairman of the Men’s Ministry, co-chairman of Men’s Day and president of the Young Adult Christian Ministry at Sills Creek AME Zion Church. He is currently employed as an assistant superintendent with Balfour Beatty US, the third largest construction general contractor in the world.

BLITZ returns to Immanuel Lutheran

ROCKWELL — Immanuel Lutheran Church will celebrate Father’s Day by adorning the church sanctuary with red and white carnations in honor and memory of fathers past and present. Mandy Shulenburger will recognize men in the congregation who have reached milestones and special music will be presented by the Immanuel Chancel Choir plus Josh Trexler and Dr. Rob, music director. The congregation will also begin a new BLITZ (Bring Lots of Items To Zap hunger) collection for Organ Lutheran Outreach Ministries. Those attending are asked to bring snack foods such as gelatin, pudding, fruit cups, freezer pops, individual bags of chips, fruit roll ups and cans of soup and fruit. The Rev. Bruce Sheeks is host pastor.

Antioch Missionary Baptist and UMA 

GRANITE QUARRY — The United Ministerial Alliance will host its joint worship service at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 602 S. Salisbury Ave. The Rev. Rickey Johnson is host pastor. The Rev. Damien M. Mason, pastor of Tower of Power United Holy Church, will speak.

The UMA’s business meeting is at 11 a.m. today at Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 East Cemetery St.

Community brunch at Milford Hills Baptist

Milford Hills Baptist Church, 1238 E. Colonial Drive, is having its monthly Community Brunch on Tuesday, June 21 at 10 a.m. This month’s featured singer is Debbie Yokley.

Fundraiser meal at Thyatira Presbyterian

Thyatira Presbyterian Church, 220 White Road, will be hosting a fundraiser meal of chicken pot pie, green beans, slaw, rolls, and dessert on June 24 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; dine in or carry out. Proceeds will benefit the Raymer family who are heading to Africa as missionaries.

There will be an ordination service for Keith Watts during the 6 p.m. Sunday evening service at Old Country Baptist Church, 627 Faith Road. The public is invited to attend as we ordain Brother Keith into the ministry.

Potter’s House Outreach hosts gospel benefit

The Community Resource Council of Piedmont Correctional Institution is sponsoring its annual benefit gospel singing concert and bake sale Saturday, June 24, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. to be held at 119 Clancy St. The event will feature Been There Done That Choir, Unity in Praise Grateful Heart Ministries Choir and the Potter’s House Outreach Ministries Choir.
