Bennett Place hosts a Memorial Day Military Timeline Event next weekend

DURHAM — Memorial Day is a time to remember the sacrifice that so many men and women have made for the freedoms we treasure. America has a rich history of selfless acts of bravery and sacrifice beginning with the American Revolution and continuing to the present day. The holiday we commemorate as Memorial Day began following the American Civil War in communities across America that wanted to pay tribute to soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Sen. John A. Logan, a former Union officer on staff with Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, was instrumental in making this a formal national day honoring our fallen soldiers.

Visit Bennett Place and join military living historians representing the American soldier of various time periods throughout our nation’s history on Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, May 28 from 0 a.m.-3 p.m. There is no cost for this event. For additional information, call 919-383-4345, e-mail  bennett@ncdcr.gov or check out www.bennettplacehistoricsite.com. Bennett Place is located at 4409 Bennett Memorial Road.
