Oak Grove Baptist

CHINA GROVE — South China Grove Baptist Church, 501 Haney St., will be celebrating its 89th year during homecoming service on Sunday beginning at 10:30 a.m. (earlier than normal). There will be special singing, and the guest speaker is former member Rev. Jeff James. ROCKWELL — Immanuel Lutheran will collect a freewill offering during the 11 a.m. Sunday service for one of its members who has been diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. That member and his wife will be leaving soon for the National Cancer Institute in Atlanta. The Immanuel members will honor this family on Sunday with cards, signs and monetary donations. John Calvin Presbyterian

Interim minister Rev. Dr. John Wilkerson of John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 1620 Brenner Ave., in front of the Hefner VA Medical Center, is presenting a five sermon series on “Faithful Practices of Fruitful Congregations” that continues through May 28.

The series of sermons is based on the book by UMC Bishop Robert Schnase. The sermon titles are Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Intentional Faith Development, Risk-Taking Mission and Service and Extravagant Generosity. While the titles are provocative in sound, the subjects deal with practices that are common to the congregational life of the church as it moves forward.

Revival at Bethel UMC

Bethel United Methodist Church, 2380 Long Ferry Road, will host revival services Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, May 7-9 at 7 p.m. nightly, with guest speaker Rev. Christ Bennett. There will be a meet and greet reception at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 7. Casual dress is welcome.

Hot dog sale

KANNAPOLIS — The monthly hot dog sale fund raiser is Saturday, May 13 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church, 301 Bethpage Road. There is also homemade chili, slaw and desserts. Proceeds benefit youth group camps.

In My Father’s House

In My Father’s House, led by the Rev. Roosevelt Jenkins, meets the first two Thursdays of each month from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The next service will be May 11 in the Hurley Room at Rowan Public Library.

First UMC FirstARTS

The FirstARTS series of First United Methodist Church, 217 S. Church St., continues its ninth season by partnering with the Carolina Artist Guild to present “Light and Life: A Gallery of Sunrises and Sunsets” in the Fisher Street Addition beginning May 11 at 7 p.m. with a public gala opening. More than 100 pieces of art featuring sunrises and sunsets will be on display. The Carolina Artist Guild will  donate 15 percent of all art sold to the Family Crisis Council of Rowan County. In addition on May 14 at 11 a.m. is a Service of Music featuring Ola Gjeilo’s “Sunrise Mass.” For more information, call the music office at 704-636-3121.
