Corriher Grange to meet 

The Corriher Grange monthly meeting is Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. Special guest will be Doug Patterson, VP of Patterson Farm and President of the NC Strawberry Association.

Jesse’s Ride and Run for PTSD

Jesse’s Ride and Run for PTSD will be held on Saturday, May 6. This is sponsored by Organ Lutheran Church and The Faith American Legion and Auxiliary.

All proceeds go to Honor One, whose Heal One’s Mission is: creating financial help for veterans, firefighters and police offices suffering from PTSD. You can donate online at Gofundme and register online. Registration begins at 8 a.m. for the Ride and Run at a cost of $25 for each at the Faith American Legion Park.

BBQ, hamburgers and hotdogs will be for sale. Door prizes will be given for the Ride, Run and Poker Hand.

The BBQ meal and door prize ticket is included in the $25 to run or ride. Additional riders receive a poker hand and food for $5.

Non-riders and runners can purchase food and poker hand as well. Bring a chair and spend the day listening to the bands of Nostalgia and Raising Glory.

Registration for the 5K Run begins at 8 a.m. also. There is a men’s division, women’s division and kids division. Run will begin at 9 a.m. First Bikes out at 10:00 a.m. Last bikes out at 2p.m.

Rowan County Extension Master Gardeners

Rowan County Extension Master Gardeners’ annual plant sale — 8:30 a.m.-noon May 6: Shrubs, vines, perennials, other plantse. Master Gardeners on hand to assist. Extension Office, 2727 Old Concord Road.

These plants are selected from the pocket gardens around the Agricultural Center, propagated from plants found around Rowan County, in the gardens of Master Gardeners and gardens from our former members and friends.

All proceeds will be used to support programs of the Extension Office, the gardens around the Agricultural Center and Education Offerings. There will be a raffle for a tile planter created by Edward Tezlaf, a framed photograph by Shane Tolliver and a 80 Gallon Rain Barrel for use with home down spouts.

 

‘WRKB Radio – Early Beginnings’

KANNAPOLIS — Kannapolis History Associates host Steve Hinson As he presents “WRKB Radio – Early Beginnings.”

Hinson, nephew of Foy and Gertrude Hinson, will renew our memories of WRKB’s early beginnings as K-Town’s local AM radio station with a portrait of what was going on during the 1960s in Kannapolis and the part played by WRKB radio.

Meet Monday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the A. L. Brown High School Social Room, 415 East First St. In addition, be sure to see the new display in the history room;it is a “big” surprise.

AARP Driver Safety Refresher Class

AARP Driver Safety Refresher Class for senior citizens will be held Wednesday, May 17 from 12:30-5 p.m. at the Rufty-Holmes Senior Center. The session shows the latest research based driving safety strategies, provides a review of driving skills and techniques, 40 pages of safety tips to help seniors adjust to normal age related changes, developing defensive driving techniques, may get an insurance discount, and more.

Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Space is limited, so preregister by calling 704-216-7714.
