SALISBURY — A Salisbury man who police said left his 18-month-old daughter in a car outside Planet Fitness gym in February and again this week at Cloninger Ford turned himself in to authorities Wednesday night.

The Salisbury Police Department said Geoffrey Kevin Robeson, 30, of the 1200 block of North Church Street, was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and issued a $1,500 secured bond. He posted bond and was released.

Robeson, also known as Geoffrey Roberson and Keiyenne Mynx Hijin, turned himself in just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, he went to the auto dealership at 511 S. Jake Alexander Blvd. to have repairs made to his vehicle and left the girl in the vehicle. The child was still inside when police arrived.

Officers noted that a child’s potty with feces in it was in the seat beside the child. The girl’s mother came to the dealership to get her.

It was the same situation two months ago, police said, when a woman discovered a Mercury Mountaineer at the gym’s parking lot. The vehicle had been there at least an hour. A woman told police that the SUV was there when she arrived and was still there when she left. She called police. She told officers that she heard the child crying and went to a door and found it unlocked with the keys inside.

Police said Robeson told officers that he was in the gym only about 15 to 20 minutes. Officers had been looking for Robeson since that Feb. 3 incident at the gym.

Robeson has a criminal history dating to 2002 that includes multiple felony breaking-and-entering convictions, felony larceny, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession with intent to sell drugs and other offenses.
