SALISBURY — A local man was charged with drug possession after two Rowan County detectives said they saw him ditch cocaine and marijuana into a parked car on East Horah Street.

The Rowan detectives were working about 12:30 a.m. Saturday and responded to a domestic disturbance at 212 E. Horah St. When a detective arrived at the home, he saw a man standing in the road. The man threw some items onto the seat of a vehicle he was standing next to, a report said.

While a detective was talking to Rhodes, another one checked the vehicle and found the drugs, some of which were wrapped in a blue paper towel.

The Sheriff’s Office charged Dmario Raynard Rhodes, 32, of the 600 block of Elm Street, with possession of  cocaine and marijuana.

He was issued a $7,500 secured bond. Detectives seized 1 gram of marijuana, 1 gram of powder cocaine and 1.5 grams of crack cocaine.

Rhodes has a few misdemeanor convictions on his record, including contributing to the delinquency of a minor, operating a motor vehicle without financial responsibility, operating a vehicle without a license and larceny.
