TYRO — For all their success, Salisbury’s senior soccer players  Katie Bullock, Ceci Cardell, Juliana Anderson and Nellie Brown had never beaten West Davidson — until Thursday night.

The Hornets won, 1-0, against the Green Dragons. West Davidson (7-5, 1-1 CCC) has won the last three Central Carolina Conference championships, beating the Hornets five times in that span and tying them once. Salisbury’s last win against West Davidson had come in 2013.

Fittingly, two Salisbury seniors teamed up for the lone goal.  Just 3 1/2 minutes into the match, Bullock received a diagonal ball from Cardelle at the top of the 18-yard box and slid it past onrushing West goalkeeper Ragan Dalton.

Then the defense of Brown, Ellen Simons, Bethanie Stauffer, Olivia Dagenhart and keeper Anderson made that early score stand up.

Salisbury (8-1-1, 1-0 CCC), coached by Matt Parrish, got excellent play from Charlotte 49ers commit Julia Honeycutt. The junior standout thwarted numerous attacks in the midfield.

Although the teams combined for less than a dozen shots on frame, West Davidson controlled a large part of the action, but could not find the back of the net.

The Hornets will have full week before spring break. Salisbury travels to East Davidson  on Monday, then hosts Lexington on Wednesday and travels to Ledford for a non-conference battle on Thursday.
