Toi Degree: Lunch and Learn sessions gear up

Published 12:00 am Sunday, March 19, 2017

I t’s that time again — time to gear up for the 2017 Lunch and Learn Sessions. The first will be held on Tuesday, March 28 at noon and is titled “Crockpot Freezer Meals.” Crockpot freezer meals have become extremely popular and are great for busy cooks that enjoy a home cooked meal.

Crockpot Freezer Meals have been referred to as game-changers because they don’t require any cooking ahead of time; they cook for the first time right out of the freezer and don’t taste like leftovers. They save a great deal in food cost because you prep several meals at once.

Participants that attend will learn how to make freezer meals from start to finish, take home five meals, and receive recipes to make more meals. These meals can be kept in the freezer for up to three months. If you are interested in attending this session, sign up by Tuesday, March 21.

Space is limited, and registration is required. The cost of this session is $15, and you will need to come by the office to sign up, pay program fee, and pick up a shopping list. Participants will need to purchase and bring items to the workshop in order to make their meals. You will also receive additional information about what items you will need to bring on that day.

Participants will receive a sampling of food or a take away at each session, recipes, and other educational materials.

The classes will be held at the Rowan County Agriculture Center, located at 2727 Old Concord Road. There is a firm limit of 20 people per session and once that limit has been reached, all others will be placed on a waiting list for future sessions.

To register for any or all of the sessions, give us a call at 704-216-8970. Sessions will be taught by Toi Degree, Family & Consumer Education Agent.
