The Salisbury-Rowan Newcomers Club held its Fifth Annual Game & Card Party on Feb. 22 at the Civic Center.

Proceeds from the event were donated to Food for Thought, a program that helps to feed school age children in Rowan County. This organization fills backpacks with food, and the backpacks are sent home with needy children for weekends and holidays. This year the Club was able to donate $4,200 to Food for Thought, which will help to feed almost 17 children for an entire school year.

Our attendance of 82 was also higher than we have had in years. The donation was due to the support and generosity of our Newcomers members.  We also wish to thank local merchants who donated money and items for our raffles and silent auction.

If you are interested in helping the children in Rowan County, contact Carol Herndon, executive director of Food for Thought, at 980-234-1849.
