SALISBURY – Maggie Dees, an eighth-grader at Salisbury Academy, has been awarded the Sisters Merit Scholarship to Salem Academy in Winston-Salem.

Salem Academy is an all-girls, college-preparatory school with a mission of fostering the intellectual, spiritual, social and physical growth of young women.

“Maggie Dees is an outstanding young woman with a bright future. She is curious, engaged, and passionate about what she loves,” said Wynne Overton, associate director of admission for Salem Academy.

The scholarship is for boarding students and designed for those who are outstanding both in the classroom and in their communities. Scholarship recipients receive honors including travel and internship opportunities in addition to full tuition and room and board.

“We are deeply honored to have Maggie selected for Salem Academy’s Sisters Merit Scholarship, and attribute much of her success to the exposure she gained and the ways in which she was challenged and encouraged in her eight years at Salisbury Academy,” said Meg Dees, Maggie’s mother.

Maggie will begin her adventure at Salem in the fall.

“Maggie comes to us from Salisbury Academy on such a firm foundation, and we look forward to her next four years at Salem,” said Overton.
