Today: Providence chicken and dumplings

Providence United Methodist Church, 6450 Bringle Ferry Road, will hold its chicken and dumpling supper today from 4-7 p.m. also with  hot dogs, drinks, desserts. Proceeds support the ministries and projects of Providence United Methodist Women.

Tonight: Handbell Concert

The fifth annual Handbell Festival is being held at First Presbyterian Church, 308 Fisher St. There will be 191 bell ringers at this two day workshop. The finale concert, open to the public, is this evening at 5 p.m. in Lewis Hall. Clinician is Cathy Moklebust.

Concert at Lyerly Evangelical

ROCKWELL — Bluegrass and Southern Gospel group Strings of Victory will lead the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday at Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road. The group includes Donnie Miller on bass, Hubert Furr on guitar, and Jeff McCorkle on banjo. Madison McCorkle is lead singer. A love offering will be received. Dr. W.C. Gaither Jr. is host pastor.

White Rock AME Zion program 

GRANITE QUARRY — The Estella McGorda Missionary Society of White Rock AME Zion Church will sponsor its annual Twelve Tribes of Israel Program on Sunday at 3 p.m. Susan Lowe is president of the missionary society. The Rev. Thomas Lee is host pastor.

Family day at Moore’s Chapel

Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church, 300 S. Caldwell St., will have a “Family Unity Day” on Sunday at 3 p.m. with guest speaker the Rev. Clarence J. Shuford Jr. of Sandy Ridge AME Zion Church of Landis. He holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Emory University and is presently a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Degree at Hood Theological Seminary and is a U.S. Army veteran.

Fairview Heights honors first Lady

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist, 704 Old Concord Road, honors first lady Evangelist Cathye Marlin on Sunday at 3 p.m. with guest speaker Pastor Alice Perry of the Vineyard Worship Center. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. Host Pastor is the Rev. Clarence E. Marlin.

Lay leadership appreciation service 

A lay leadership appreciation service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Ambassador Christian Church, 726 Lincolnton Road. Pastor Chris Bolder of the Kingdom Living Ministries in Concord will be the speaker.

St. Luke Baptist Church 

St. Luke Baptist Church in Hawkinstown will have Minister Phyllis Duren as the guest speaker.  Minister Duren organized the Phenomenal Women of God in 2010.

Women’s Sunday at FUCC 

In recognition of International Women’s Week, the women of First United Church of Christ will conduct the service on Sunday at 11 a.m. The theme will be taken from the Celtic prayer genre of lorica, a Latin word meaning “body armor.” The service will be conducted by the Church Women’s Board. Those participating are Phyllis Little, Carolyn Cline, Susan Ward, Jeanette Yost, Sandy Wagoner, Glenda Shrewsbury, Sarah Schiemann and Frances Wensil, with a special solo by Lydia Price.

Special Music and Meditation services at St. John’s Lutheran

The St. John’s Lutheran Church chapel, 200 W. Innes St., will host brief services of Music and Meditation during the lunch hour on three consecutive Mondays during this Lenten Season. They will be held on Mondays, March 13, 20, and 27 from 12:15-12:45 p.m.

The services will include prayer and meditation led by the St. John’s Pastors, and special music by • Rosemary Kinard, flute and Rob Durocher, piano (March 13);

• Brad Chestnut, Guitar and Piano (March 20); • and Michelle Trivette, Saxophone (March 27).

Gloria Dei Lutheran Lenten meals

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Statesville Boulevard will be having Lenten Meals at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall on Wednesdays as well as church services at 7 p.m., in the church sanctuary for the Season of Lent. Open to all.

Kingdom Kids art show, open house

Spencer Presbyterian bake sale and breakfast 

SPENCER — Spencer Presbyterian Church will have a breakfast and bake sale fundraiser Saturday, March 18 from 7:30-10:30 a.m. with pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, grits, toast, drinks. $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12. Proceeds support various church ministries. The event will be in the educational building, 117 1st St., off Salisbury Avenue across from the entrance to the NC Transportation Museum.

‘Pasta With a Purpose’

CHINA GROVE — First Baptist Church of China Grove, 302 Patterson St., will host “Pasta with a Purpose” on Saturday, March 18 from 5-8 p.m., which benefits the ongoing capital campaign for a handicap-accessible bathroom. The Back Creek Bluegrass Boys and Tori Jones will entertain while attendees enjoy a pasta dinner complete with garlic bread, salad, homemade dessert and drink. Deadline for Treasure Feamster Scholarship

The deadline for the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship (IMF) Treasure Feamster Scholarship is April 3. The scholarships are available for high school seniors who are members of an IMF-affiliated church, regardless of their chosen field of study.
