Freeze at South Main Book Company 

Catawba College historian Gary Freeze will be at South Main Book Company, 119 S. Main St., during Friday Night Out on March 3, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. At 7 p.m. Dr. Freeze will give a short talk about his latest book, The Catawbans: Boomers and Bypasses.

The work is the last of a trilogy on the local heritage of Catawba County. The earlier volumes, Crafters of a North Carolina County and Pioneers in Progress, will also be for sale. For more information call the store at 704-630-9788.

 

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority annual Youth Symposium

Sessions will focus on healthy living, healthy choices and healthy generations. To be held on March 11 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Isenberg Elementary School. The event is free and open to youth ages 12 – 18 and their parents/guardians. Nominations for ‘Service to Seniors’ Awards

 The Rowan County Council on Aging is seeking nominations for individual volunteers of all ages, and community organizations, that have shown “exemplary service” to older adults in our community. Winners selected by the Council will be honored at a special banquet to be held in May. Nomination forms can be obtained at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, or on the Center’s website at www.ruftyholmes.org   The deadline for submitting a nomination is April 7.
