SALISBURY — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating a Sunday morning shooting that left two people injured.

According to a news release Monday, investigators hoped to interview one of the victims, a 23-year-old black man who suffered a gunshot wound in the pelvic region. The man was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and underwent several hours of surgery for serious injuries. Deputies say he is making a slow recovery.

The Sheriff’s Office responded at 1:15 a.m. Sunday to Kahuna’s Bar and Grill, 3750 Statesville Blvd., after a report of a shooting. A large crowd gathered at the bar and across the street in the parking lot of Bunce Buildings, authorities said. Salisbury police assisted with security and crime-scene management.

The 23-year-old was found inside the bar on the floor. Deputies were told of another victim, a 21-year-old black male, who went to the emergency room at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. He had a bullet graze wound to his right elbow, but he left the hospital without treatment, authorities said. Investigators later located and interviewed him.
