Steve Crump of WBTV will be the featured speaker at the 24th annual African-American History Breakfast at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center on Feb. 24.

Crump is a 30-year veteran with WBTV News, famous for his “On Your Side” segments.  A native of Louisville, Kentucky, he worked in television news in Kentucky, Florida, Georgia and Michigan before coming to Charlotte.  He has received numerous awards in broadcast journalism over the years.

The African-American History Breakfast is designed to recognize the accomplishments of African-Americans on the local, state and national levels during Black History Month. It was first held in 1994, being organized by the late Salisbury Mayor Wiley Lash, who served on the Rufty-Holmes board.

The breakfast is sponsored by J.P. Johnson Memorial Society. It will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Rufty-Holmes center on South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.  Admission is $7 at the door with reservations.  The breakfast is open to the public.
