Prep track and field: North’s Russell wins title

North Rowan’s Payton Russell won the 300 meters in the 1A/2A indoor track state championships held in Winston-Salem on Friday.
Russell ran a time of 40.29 seconds.
North’s Heavenly Robinson was eighth in the 300 in 43.10 seconds.
North’s Chevy Blaire placed sixth in the shot put (34 feet, 11 inches) and Lakayla Birst (5 feet) was fifth in the high jump.
North’s girls scored 18 points, with Russell accounting for 10, Birst four, Blaire three, and Robinson one.
The Cavaliers finished eighth.
The North Brunswick boys dominated their meet, while the High Point Andrews women held off a hard charge from Cummings to win the girls title.
