CONCORD — South Rowan girls coach John Davis returned to the sideline on Tuesday, in time to see his team produce one of its best games of the season.

Davis had surgery to repair a ruptured triceps tendon.

South  (13-10, 9-8) shut out Robinson in the second quarter and steamrolled the Bulldogs, 56-18.

Janiya Downs had 25 points and 14 rebounds for the Raiders. Tazah “Z” Hardin had 12 points, 13 rebounds and nine steals.

Brooke Lowery added eight points.

“It was a good win for us,” Davis said. “Whitley Arnott played excellent post defense, and we were able to sit out Janiya the last seven minutes.”

East scored 48 points in the second half but allowed 60. Central scored 40 points in the third quarter. East had 31 in the fourth.

Ellis Taylor scored 17 points for the Mustangs. Brandon Jefferson had 16, Tyler Scruggs had 14, and Gabe Hinceman added 12.

Isaiah Salter led the Vikings with 21 points.

Akeena Maxwell scored 18 points to lead A.L. Brown to a 56-55 win against West Charlotte.

Nikki Lyerly added 16 for the Wonders, and Shemya Stanback scored nine.

Davie boys fall

Davie’s boys lost to Mount Tabor, 81-70, on Tuesday in CPC action.

Davie got 18 points from Owen McCormack and 17 from Heath Slabach.
