SALISBURY — Police have arrested a Statesville man in connection with the 2016 murder of Albert Brice Shelton Jr.

Salisbury police on Monday arrested Jamar Rahmel Robinson, 28, on charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was held at the Rowan County Detention Center without bond. His first court appearance is set for Thursday.

On Dec. 17, police say, Robinson murdered Shelton, who was 37. Initially, police were responding to a report of a cardiac arrest on Victory Street. When they arrived on the scene, they found that Shelton had been shot. Shelton died at the scene.

Robinson was arrested at his home in Statesville, according to a Salisbury Police Department news release.

Warrants say the firearms charge stems from Robinson’s conviction for common law robbery in 2010.
