SALISBURY — Salisbury police say a passer-by saw a 3-year-old boy wandering across North Main Street by himself Tuesday afternoon. The driver got out of his vehicle and called out to the child. The driver took the child’s hand, called police and waited.

While the driver waited, a woman ran from a nearby residence and called out a name, police said. The woman spotted the child and ran to him. She was quickly identified as the mother. She told police she was putting her infant down for a nap and, when she turned around, her son was gone. The Rowan County Department of Social Services was called. Police advised the woman to obtain a proper child safety lock for her door.

The child was not harmed, reports said.

As of Wednesday, no charges had been filed.
