Dorothy Kirk provided this photograph, which includes her late grandfather, A.B.C. “Chubby” Kirk Sr., who over his long business career in Salisbury first operated a bus service, then Kirk’s Taxis. The taxi service stayed in business into the 1970s. In this photograph, Kirk says, her grandfather is working behind the desk of a hotel in Salisbury. ‘The calendar on the wall says 1914,’ Dorothy says. ‘My grandfather is the man in the middle with the bowl type haircut. Spittoon on the floor, of course.’
