A cool and bright day turned cloudy as 250 runners and walkers posted fast times at the 34th Annual Novant Health Winter Flight 8K, Health Walk 5K and ½ mile fun run. Ryan Jank of Mooresville ran a fast 25 minutes and 37 seconds to pace the 8K field while Winston-Salem’s Molly Nunn ran a personal record of 29:12 to grab a tight win from Shawanna White of Columbia who was timed in 29:31.

Jank said, “I was surprised how hilly the course was. But I loved the race. It was my second 8K in two days.” Nunn, a perennial winner on the historic course, said, “I was used up by mile 3 and was glad to get the win. The organization is always amazing for this race. Nobody else does such a good job on coning the course, the split timers were so vocal and we had a great day to run.”

Winter Flight is on the Running Journal Grand Prix Circuit of quality races throughout the southeast and also is the Road Runners Club of America 8K Championship in North Carolina.

Aleiah Martin grabbed the fun run with a time of 3:24 over a half mile. Walkers covered a 3.1 mile course. Runners and walkers from six states participated in the event.
