Mary Denton of Salisbury celebrated her 100th birthday Jan. 13, 2017. A reception was held Jan. 14 in her honor with many friends from Salisbury and Tennessee in attendance.
Family members present to celebrate were her living children: Gordon Statum (Pat), Glenda Grasse (George), and Doris Hixon. Also present were her son-in-law Jack Rigdon, four of her five grandsons [Randy Statum, David Hixon (Jodie), Eric Murray (Kristy), and Tracy Murray (Brenda)], along with five of her ten great-grandchildren and four of her ten great-great-grandchildren. Mary is a retired Church of God minister and her life has been a blessing to everyone with whom she interacts.
Mary attributes her longevity to serving God throughout her life, often quoting Exodus 20:12 “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee,” along with Ephesians 6:1-3 which repeats that honoring your father and mother will result in a long life upon this earth.
